Correct Answer : (1) The Milky Way Galaxy was first observed by Galileo.

The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains our solar system.

This name derives from its appearance as a dim “milky” glowing band arching across the night sky, in which the naked eye cannot distinguish individual stars.

Observational evidence for the Milky Way galaxy being made up of distant stars first came when Galileo, in 1610 AD, pointed his telescope towards the Milky Way, observing a large amount of faint stars. This was one of a series of discoveries he published in ‘Sidereus Nuncius’.

Until the early 1920s, most astronomers thought that the Milky Way contained all the stars in the universe. Following the 1920, a great debate between the astronomers Harlow Shaploy and Heber Curtis was held on 26 April 1920 and observations made by Edwin Hubble showed that the Milky Way is just one of many galaxies.
